21 Jump Street – Review

21 Jump Street

Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill share a moment

Funny, witty and action packed. I’d never thought I’d enjoy a movie such as 21 Jump Street. The unlikely pair Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill worked as they balanced each other. Channing may not be the best of actors but he’s charming enough to pull of his scenes as an adult pretending to be a high school student. Jonah on the other hand showed some skill in acting as a goofy policeman suffering high school trauma all over again except he’s now popular.

21 jump street is a fictional story of an undercover unit that pretends to be high school students to uncover petty crimes, drug dealings etc. I’m surprised that the inspiration for this movie came from an old tv series of the same name with Johnny Depp no less as the lead character.

The movie is entertaining and Jonah Hill fitted in as a student. The make-up department may have struggled a bit with Channing Tatum in 21 Jump street but his naivete acting helped a bit.

*spoiler alert!*

The only downside was that they showed the original pair of undercover cops from the 21 Jump Street series dying in the last few scenes of the film. Kind of sad really.

Funny parts include a lot of scenes that should have explode-y effects but I guess the director must have wanted to save money or something.

Anyway, the unlikely success of the film gave Channing and Jonah another sequel and here’s the trailer.
