Currently Addicted To: The Fat process by Walked My Dog…

Walked My Dog just posted a very informative blog about the fat process. To sum it all up, the food we eat are converted to calories. So the calories from carbohydrates come from glucose which is different from Lipids and Amino Acids. According to WMD, the body loves glucose and burns it up first and stores the lipids and amino acids as fat.

WMD wrote that a regular person can have a 2000 calorie diet. Digging that up further, a regular student or office worker sitting most of the day needs about 2000 calories. While the athletes, heavy workers and the like need about 3,000 calories.

The example he used is based on a 2000 calorie diet which is printed in most food products. MD wrote that if you are eating 3 meals a day, it should be roughly 600 calories per meal. Anything excess will be stored as fats. But there is a catch, the body processes or burns calories differently between carbohydrates, fats and proteins!

The body also knows where the calories came from. Just to expand the post of WMD since it lacked this little bit of info.

  • Carbohydrates > Glucose = 4 calories / 1 gram
  • Fats > Lipids = 4 calories / 1 gram
  • Proteins > Amino acids = 9 calories / 1 gram

To quote his sample diet of 1 meal for an average Pinoy:

  • Large Coke = 310 calories (mostly from carbs)
  • 2 cups of rice = 600 calories (mostly from carbs)
  • Fried chicken (breast) = 218 calories (protein and mostly fats)

That’s 1 meal of 1128 Calories. Nearly 2 times the required 600 calories per meal. A person can then gain approximately 100 grams of weight for this meal OR a 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds) weight gain in just 3 days! That’s still hypothetical cause you can still eat more! So what if you ate the following:

  • Carbohydrates = 800 Calories
  • Fats = 400 calories
  • Protein = 300 calories

So minus 600 calories from carbs. You have 200 calories of carbs or a  50 gram weight gain, 400 calories fat or a 45 gram weight gain and 300 calories from protein or a  75 gram weight gain. That totals to 170 grams in just 1 meal!
